On April 13th, 1919 about ten thousand people, including many women and children, gathered at a garden in the city of Amritsar. The people were peacefully protesting against the arrest of two leaders of the Indian National Congress, all of them were unarmed. The british General Edward Dyer then ordered his troops to open fire on the protesters killing many and wounding more.
